METACRAFTERS BREAKS GROUND ON NEW SIMULATOR IN LITESIM
October 18, 2008
MetaCrafters, a virtual worlds content and software solution provider, broke ground today on virtual land in a new, up-and-coming virtual world known as Litesim.
Litesim Ltd, a UK based organization, has created the 'Trusted OpenSim' platform, a "Free Software" alternative to 3D Worlds servers provided by Second Life, OSGrid, RealXTend, and a variety of recently emergent competing technologies. Litesim developers were initially responsible for early stages of development of the now widely recognized OpenSim platform of virtual world simulators, and branched development in support of GNU GPL open-source licensing for the product.
"To my knowledge, Litesim Ltd is the only company developing GPLed server software compatible with the Second Life protocol and we strive to support online freedom in the virtual worlds arena using this. For that reason, I'm glad MetaCrafters is taking an interest in the Trusted Opensim platform", explains Gareth Nelson, owner and principal developer of Litesim Ltd.
"Understanding the differences between theses emerging new platforms allows us insight to providing solutions to our customers. Creation of developer tools which operate on multiple Virtual World platforms will provide MetaCrafters the ability to increase potential market share. We are very optimistic about the potential to benefit our customers through strategic alliances with hosting providers like Litesim and the software solutions they offer.", says Blaze Young, CEO and Founder of MetaCrafters.
MetaCrafters CTO and tech guru FWord Utorid has other reasons to be enthusiastic about the new land. "Simulation in virtual worlds has an enormous range of possibilities beyond the social network environment of Second Life. The possibilities for new kinds of communication and collaboration software, not to mention games, represent some interesting objectives for our development teams. We're pleased that Litesim has space available for us and is willing to give us room to play," says Utorid.
The new virtual land represents roughly 65,000 virtual square meters of space, and at the groundbreaking ceremony was entirely empty except for a flat plane of water. The purpose of the area has not yet been disclosed.
"We have secret plans," beams Blaze Young. Blaze Young is smiling about something we apparently will just have to wait for.
